Case Study - Embedding Temperature, Humidity and Moisture sensor in a Brick Wall

These photos were submitted by customers doing a joint collaboration to monitor moisture and temperature inside the solid brick walls of a listed London townhouse. Harry Paticas, director of Arboreal Architecture worked with Andy Simmonds, CEO of AECB, the Sustainable Building Association.  The main contractor was Noble & Taylor. By hermetically sealing the sensor into a cavity in the brick wall, equilibrium RH can be monitored.  Mounting the Sensor's moisture content probes to the wood block, then sistering the wood block to the brick gives further information about the brick's moisture content and will be representative of the moisture content that other timber in the structure will equilibriate to when in contact with the brick in the wall system.  Because the sensor is wireless and has a typical 15 year battery life it can be completey hidden and embedded into the structure with no wires and no need to provide future access for battery changes.
